K2 is the second-highest mountain in the world, trekking to the base camp of K2 and crossing the Gondogoro La into Hushe valley is no doubt one of the best treks. On this trek, feast your eyes upon the great Trango Towers, the world’s tallest collection of peaks, the Masherbrum and Gasherbrums, the mighty K2 and Broad peak among many other famous mountains. On the k2 and Gondogoro La Trek, you will trek on the famous Baltoro and Godwin-Austen Glacier and pass Concordia to reach K2 basecamp. Concordia is famous for its unique 360° panorama of 7,000 meters mountains. It is called “The throne room of the gods” and when you see it, you will know why. Its beauty is out of this world. Cross the high altitude Gondogoro pass into Hushe valley to complete this superb trekking journey.

Risks and Hazards
  • Falls and trips resulting in physical injury e.g. slipping on ice or falling off the path.
  • Altitude illness including but not limited to AMS, HACE and HAPE.
  • Getting lost or becoming separated from group e.g. Crossing Gondogoro La pass in whiteout.
  • Severe bad weather and conditions when camping e.g. at Concordia or Ali Camp.
  • Climatic injuries (dehydration, sun burn, heat exhaustion, hypothermia or heat stroke). Temperatures of up to 40 Celsius may be experienced during the first few days of the trek.
  • Crossing a river with no bridge resulting in drowning and/ or a fall. There are a number of river crossings on the trail to K2 Base Camp and after crossing Gondogoro La on way to Shaicho.
  • Rock fall and landslides e.g. crossing Gondogoro La pass. The jeep track Skardu – Askole and Hushe – Skardu is at a risk of rock fall and landslides as well as many sections of the trek.
  • Snow and ice avalanches e.g. crossing Gondogoro La pass. Lightning strike.
  • Wildlife, pack animals (e.g. donkeys or horses) or stray dogs. Pack animals have been known to knock people off the path. Dogs can attack and bite, we advise you discuss rabies vaccination with your doctor.
  • Earthquake. There is a high risk of earthquake in Karakoram Mountains.
  • Risk of fire in the hotel or lodge.
  • Endemic local diseases. We advise you discuss vaccinations with your doctor before departure.
  • Physiological injury such as heart attack, appendicitis, hernia, toothache etc. in a remote area.
  • Road traffic. The drive along the jeep track Skardu – Askole and Hushe – Skardu is a prone to landslides and rock fall and has many sections with high degree of exposure.
  • Flight accident on Islamabad – Skardu – Islamabad route. Contaminated food and/ or water.
Day 1: Arrival in Islamabad (540m/1,770ft)

Welcome to Pakistan! Upon arrival at Islamabad International Airport, our team will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. You’ll have the day to rest or explore the city. A pre-trek briefing will be held in the evening.

 

  • Mountain Range: Margalla Hills.
  • Highlights: Explore Islamabad’s serene Margalla Hills, Faisal Mosque, and local bazaars.
Day 2: Flight to Skardu (2,228m/7,310ft) or Drive via Karakoram Highway

Weather permitting, we’ll take a scenic flight to Skardu, offering breathtaking aerial views of the Karakoram Range. If the flight is canceled, we’ll embark on a thrilling 10–12-hour drive along the famous Karakoram Highway.

  • Mountain Range: Karakoram Range.
  • Sightseeing: Aerial views of Nanga Parbat, Indus River, and the rugged Karakoram Highway landscape.

Day 3: Rest Day in Skardu

Spend the day acclimatizing and exploring Skardu. Visit local bazaars, historical sites, and the serene Shangrila Resort or Skardu Fort. Final preparations for the trek will be completed.

  • Mountain Range: Karakoram Range.
  • Highlights: Visit Shangrila Resort, Skardu Fort, and Satpara Lake. Prepare gear and acclimatize to the high altitude.
Day 4: Drive to Askoli (7-8 Hours)

We’ll drive to Askoli, the last inhabited village before entering the wilderness. The drive offers incredible views of the Shigar Valley and rugged mountain terrain. Overnight at a campsite in Askoli.

 

  • Mountain Range: Shigar Valley (foothills of the Karakoram).
  • Highlights: Terraced fields, apricot orchards, and views of the Karakoram foothills.
    Day 5: Trek to Jhula (3,200m/10,498ft)

    The trek begins! We’ll follow the Braldu River, crossing suspension bridges and rocky paths to reach Jhula. The trail offers a blend of adventure and stunning landscapes.

     

    • Surrounding Mountains: Begin to see glimpses of the Karakoram giants like Bakhor Das (5,809m).
    • Highlights: Trek along the Braldu River, crossing rocky paths and suspension bridges.
    Day 6: Trek to Paiju Camp (3,380m/11,090ft)

    The journey continues along the Braldu River to Paiju Camp. The trail becomes more challenging, but the views of towering peaks, including Trango Towers, are immensely rewarding.

     

    • Surrounding Mountains: Trango Towers (6,286m) and Cathedral Spires (5,860m).
    • Highlights: Breathtaking views of iconic granite peaks as the Baltoro Glacier comes into view.
    Day 7: Rest Day at Paiju

    Today is a rest and acclimatization day. You’ll have time to relax, enjoy the surroundings, and watch porters prepare traditional bread, known as “Chapati.”

     

    • Surrounding Mountains: Stunning views of Uli Biaho Tower (6,417m) and Paiju Peak (6,610m).
    • Highlights: Acclimatize, enjoy glacier views, and watch porters prepare traditional bread.
    Day 8: Trek to Khoburse (3,900m/12,795ft)

    The trek leads us towards Khoburse. This section introduces glacier moraine terrain, providing glimpses of the majestic Baltoro Glacier.

     

    • Surrounding Mountains: Masherbrum (7,821m) and Uli Biaho.
    • Highlights: Trek across the Baltoro Glacier’s initial moraine, surrounded by dramatic rock spires.
    Day 9: Trek to Urdukas (4,050m/13,287ft)

    We’ll ascend to Urdukas, a picturesque campsite perched above the Baltoro Glacier. The views of granite peaks such as Trango Towers and Cathedral Spires are simply breathtaking.

     

    • Surrounding Mountains: Cathedral Spires, Trango Towers, and Lobsang Spires.
    • Highlights: A steep climb to Urdukas Camp, offering panoramic views of the Baltoro Glacier.
    Day 10: Trek to Goro II (4,300m/14,108ft)

    Today’s trek takes us across challenging glacier terrain to Goro II. The campsite offers incredible views of Gasherbrum IV, Masherbrum, and other towering peaks.

     

    • Surrounding Mountains: Gasherbrum IV (7,925m), Masherbrum, and Muztagh Tower (7,273m).
    • Highlights: Cross glacial terrain with constant views of the towering peaks surrounding the Baltoro Glacier.
    Day 11: Trek to Concordia (4,600m/15,091ft)

    We’ll reach Concordia, famously known as the “Throne Room of the Mountain Gods.” This is where four of the world’s highest peaks, including K2, converge.

     

    • Surrounding Mountains: K2 (8,611m), Broad Peak (8,051m), Gasherbrum Peaks, and Chogolisa (7,665m).
    • Highlights: Reach Concordia, known as the “Throne Room of the Mountain Gods,” where multiple 8,000m peaks come into view.
    Day 12: Trek to K2 Basecamp (5,150m/16,892ft) and Back to Concordia

    The highlight of the trek! We’ll make our way to K2 Base Camp, standing at the foot of the world’s second-highest mountain. The sense of achievement and the views are indescribable.

     

    • Surrounding Mountains: K2, Broad Peak, and the icefalls of the Godwin-Austen Glacier.
    • Highlights: Stand beneath K2, the world’s second-highest mountain, before returning to Concordia. 
    Day 13: Return to Concordia (4,600m/15,091ft)

    We’ll retrace our steps back to Concordia, taking in the iconic scenery one last time before heading towards Gondogoro La.

    • Highlights: Retrace your steps, soaking in the surreal landscapes of Concordia.

     

    Day 14: Trek to Ali Camp (5,010m/16,437ft)

    The trek to Ali Camp offers a mix of glacier walking and rocky paths, with views of snow-covered peaks. We’ll prepare for the Gondogoro La crossing.

     

    • Surrounding Mountains: Views of Chogolisa and the Gondogoro Glacier.
    • Highlights: Prepare for the Gondogoro La crossing while surrounded by icy wilderness.
    Day 15: Gondogoro La Crossing (5,585m/18,323ft) to Khuspang (4,600m/15,091ft)

    A challenging yet unforgettable day! We’ll cross the Gondogoro La Pass (5,585m), surrounded by panoramic views of K2, Broad Peak, and Gasherbrum. Descend to Khuspang for a well-deserved rest.

     

    • Surrounding Mountains: K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I (8,080m), and Gasherbrum II (8,035m).
    • Highlights: A challenging but rewarding climb to the pass, offering unmatched views of 8,000m peaks.
    Day 16: Trek to Saicho (3,400m/11,155ft)

    The trail descends into verdant valleys, with stunning views of the Karakoram Range. We’ll camp in Saicho, a tranquil spot near the Hushe River.

     

    • Surrounding Mountains: Descending views of Masherbrum and Laila Peak (6,096m).
    • Highlights: Transition from rugged glaciers to lush valleys and meadows.
    Day 17: Trek to Hushe (3,050m/10,007ft)

    Our final trekking day brings us to the picturesque Hushe Village. Celebrate the successful completion of the trek with your team.

     

    • Surrounding Mountains: Masherbrum and spires of the Karakoram Range.
    • Highlights: Celebrate the trek’s completion at the charming Hushe Village.
    Day 18: Drive to Skardu (2,228m/7,310ft)

    We’ll drive back to Skardu, where you can enjoy a hot shower and a comfortable bed after days in the wilderness.

     

    • Surrounding Mountains: Karakoram Range and views of the Indus River.
    • Highlights: Scenic drive through the Shigar Valley back to Skardu.
    Day 19: Flight to Islamabad (540m/1,770ft)

    Weather permitting, we’ll fly back to Islamabad. Alternatively, we’ll drive via the Karakoram Highway, enjoying one last adventure.

     

    • Surrounding Mountains: Himalayas and Karakoram.
    • Highlights: Weather permitting, enjoy final aerial views of Nanga Parbat and the Karakoram Range.
    Day 20: Contingency Day in Islamabad

    This day is reserved for contingencies such as flight delays or additional rest. You can explore Islamabad’s landmarks, such as Faisal Mosque or Daman-e-Koh.

    Highlights: Explore Islamabad’s landmarks, such as Saidpur Village, Lok Virsa Museum, and Centaurus Mall.

    Day 21: Client Departure Day

    We will provide airport transfers for those departing within the next 12 hours. The check-out time from the hotel is around 11 am on Day 21. If you are not flying home immediately, you have the option to extend your stay at the same hotel.

    However, please note that any additional nights at the hotel will not be covered by An Altitude.
